In this illustration by Friedrich
Wilhelm Kuhnert, produced in 1890, several thylacines confront a large
adult kangaroo - probably not a very common scenario. The image was
featured in the German magazine "Die Gartenlaube" (The Garden Arbor),
1890. The thylacines are portrayed with obvious dog-like characteristics,
and indeed, many artists, even well into the 20th century, used the canine
form as reference when depicting the species.
