THE THYLACINE IN ART:
- NATURAL HISTORY ILLUSTRATION -
Image twenty-one - Fournier
.

.
A thylacine illustration, with drawings of the species's dentition, by the artist Fournier.  It appears on plate 49 of Georges Cuvier's 1836 edition of "Le Règne Animal" (Animal Kingdom).  Note the extended genitalia; as with a number of other early natural history illustrations of the thylacine, a taxidermied specimen was used for reference.  Also depicted on the plate are the Long-nosed bandicoot (Perameles nasuta) and Eastern quoll (Dasyurus viverrinus).
