This thylacine illustration by an unknown German artist first appeared in "Meyer's Konversations Lexicon" 5th ed., 1893-5, which featured two pages depicting nine marsupial species.  Publisher - (Leipzig, Germany : Bibliographisches Institut, 1893-1897).

The artist's signature is located just below the tip of the thylacine's tail.  It is somewhat faint and difficult to decipher, but it appears to read: P. KREY X. I.

Long-nosed bandicoot (Perameles nasuta), Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana), Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii), Kultarr (Antechinomys laniger) and thylacine (Thylacinus cynocephalus).
